About Career

He was initially fond of playing football. When he was in 6th class, the school wicket keeper was asked by his parents to leave cricket. School teacher Keshav Banerjee saw Dhoni doing goalkeeping. He included Dhoni in the school team. Because of his good playing, he was in the Commando Cricket Club. After playing well at the club level, he was included in the state team for the 1997-98 Under-16 Venu Marker Trophy. Dhoni had a brilliant performance in this tournament. In the same year, while opening with Sabir Hussain in the Inter School Tournament, he made a partnership of 378 runs. Dhoni scored a double century in that innings. Dhoni was discussed in every local news and newspaper. In January 1998, Deval Sahay sent Dhoni to Central Co Ltd. I was offered a job under the sports quota. The salary was around Rs 2000 thousand. But being a match-winning player, he got Rs 200 extra. To provide some support to the family, Dhoni accepted this job. He was selected in the Bihar Under 19 team. In the year 1998-1999, he scored 176 runs in 5 matches and 7 innings of Cooch Behar Trophy. Due to average performance, he was neither selected for Under-19 East John nor MH Chidambaram Trophy. Next year, he played an important inning of 84 runs in the Cooch Behar Trophy and took Bihar to the final. But in the final, Punjab defeated Bihar badly. Dhoni gave himself a one-year ban. In the years 2003 and 2004, Dhoni scored a lot of runs. At the same time, the BCCI organised the Talent Resource Development Wing, whose job was to find small town talent. In the year 2003, Prakash Poddar saw Dhoni batting during a match in Jamshedpur.
